Exploring the Forest Perimeter of Conceição de Tavira, an area also known as Santa Rita Woods, including horseback riding at Quinta Alvisquer.
The lands that make up this area today (with an area of 449.791 hectares) are municipal lands, which once guaranteed the right to pasture and use of the scrubland by neighboring populations. In 1916, this area was subjected to Partial Forestry Regulation, and the first afforestation plan was approved at that time.
As a result of prolonged silvicultural activity, the predominant species are Stone Pine (Pinus pinea), Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus sp., a total of 17 varieties), and acacias (Acacia picnantha). Various oak species such as Holm Oak (Quercus rotundifolia), which dominates the tree canopy, and Cork Oak (Quercus suber), which appears sporadically, along with Wild Olive (Olea europaea var. sylvestris), Carob (Ceratonia siliqua), among others, are also found. In spring, the landscape is adorned with the blossoms of heather, lavender, and gorse, adding colour to the shrub cover.
An area of approximately 40 hectares has been designated for outdoor activities within the forest space. Inside, there is a small community of deer and a small pond with a bird observatory restored earlier this year in 2012.
The Jeep tour includes observing this forested area and visiting Quinta do Alvisquer Equestrian Centre.
This estate covers about 40 hectares and features several cultivated trees. The horseback ride will be led by Antonio.
